Due to the high surface to volume ratio, microfluidic systems enable us to work with small quantities of samples and reagents at low cost. There are widespread applications of microfluidic devices in many chemical, biological, and medical industries.  Surface microfluidics is an evolving liquid management platform and subcategory of microfluidics. In surface microfluidics liquids are propelled and manipulated on the open surface and not in the closed channel. With the advance in surface sciences and surface engineering, it is possible to get surfaces with high contact angles. Mainly chemical processing with the micro to nanoscale roughness or modifying polymer surfaces obtain these surfaces. This open surface microfluidic device will be useful for Point of Care diagnostics as well as Lab on Chip applications.
